Theme: Time To Bloom
Founded in 1953, the Trowel Garden Club is the oldest garden club in Eastern Prince William County. The club strives to improve our knowledge of horticulture, floral design, and environmentally sound gardening and conservation practices. Our Mission is to support our community through service, garden therapy, and landscaping projects.
We meet the second Wednesday of the month, September to June with a social half hour at 10:45 a.m. followed by our business meeting at a local restaurant in Lake Ridge VA. We have lunch and then a program consisting of an educational lecture, a demonstration or a workshop on creative floral design, gardening or landscaping with a focus on deer-resistant and NOVA plants. We try to have at least one field trip.
Community projects include maintaining the gardens and yard at Spinaweb in Occoquan VA. We also provide decorated wreaths for the Holidays at the Weems-Botts Museum in Dumfries. Consistent with our belief in helping others, we partner with the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program by donating gifts distributed to the children of families in need in Prince William County. We also have a monthly Garden Therapy Program where members instruct residents on the art of flower design.
Our sole fundraising activity is participation in the Lake Ridge Parks and Recreation Association’s Community-wide yard sale. To supplement fund raising, we have a raffle among our members at our monthly meetings. We may hold a Standard Flower show every other year at a local venue in Prince William County. The show is free and open to the public.
New members are welcome at any time. Membership dues are $30 per year. The only other requirement is to have an interest in gardening, a desire to contribute to the community, and to have fun with new friends. For further information, please contact Jo Anne Wiggins, at jowiggins69@gmail.com .
